Maada Bio consoles quarantined Ebola household
On Thursday 21st August 2014, the Presidential Candidate of the SLPP in the 2012 elections, Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio has consoled a quarantined Ebola household in Bo following the death of a dispenser, Foday Tommy from the Ebola Virus.
The visit to the quarantined Ebola household by Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio was made a day after he had donated 300 bags of rice to the affected Ebola families and households in the entire country and an additional 20 bags of rice to affected Ebola families and households in Bo districts. The additional 20 bags of rice to affected Ebola families and households in Bo took the rice donation to 320 bags of rice countrywide.
Addressing a cross section of the quarantined ebola household from a far distance as required by the security personnel, the former SLPP Presidential Candidate expressed profound sympathy to the household for the loss of their family member. He explained to them that the period of quarantine can be very challenging but it is in their own interest and that of the wider community so that the spread of Ebola can be contained. He advised them to believe in God and have faith that their quarantine period will come to a past.
He informed the quarantined household of his rice donation to affected Ebola victims and families which he said was to cushion the plights of families and households like them throughout the country. He also used the opportunity to assure the quarantine household of his commitment to help in the fight against Ebola and stating the whole country is also united in the fight against the deadly virus.
After the short remarks, the Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio also made a cash donation to the members of the household which he hoped will support them during this challenging period. The Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio also prayed for them and many other quarantined families across the country for God to see them through the quarantined period successfully.
It should be noted that the quarantined household was heavily protected by Military and Personnel and there was a clear line which the Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio could not go beyond. Also, the visit was made to a household which has the highest population of quarantined people in Bo and majority of the survivors are women and children.
The visit was a somber affair for people who have used to dance around a man they regard as their political hero but had to be kept distance away because of the nature of the Ebola virus and medical advised from Ministry of Health. From a distance, you could tell from their faces the trauma and psychological impacts this deadly virus have had on those quarantined people especially children.
It could be recalled that on Wednesday 20th August 2014, the Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio donated 320 bags of rice to Ebola victims across the country. According to the distribution plan, 100 bags of rice will be for Kailahun; 100 bags for Kenema and the remaining 100 bags for the rest of the other affected Ebola districts. On the day for the donation, the former SLPP flag bearer donated an additional 20 bags of rice to Ebola victims in Bo district which took the total donation to 320 bags of rice.
