President Koroma launches contemporary quarters for army

President Koroma launched a project for the construction of contemporary military quarters at Wilberforce Barracks on Friday 18 July 2014.

Speaking at a well attended ceremony at the construction site at Wilberforce Barracks, the President assured soldiers of his and government’s commitment in the achievement of developmental goals vis-à-vis the improvement of the country’s roads and the building of more quarters for service personnel.

He lauded efforts of the military over the years, and entreated all to not only secure society’s territorial waters, but to help in nation building too.

That government’s talk about the slogan “action pass intention” seems reaching doorsteps of all, including members and families of the Armed Forces of Sierra Leone.

Defence Minister, Palo Conteh, in his statement, lauded the efforts of serving personnel as well as government for their willingness in the improvement and empowerment of the Sierra Leone Military.

“This government,” Palo said, “has done things to help change the living condition of soldiers as well as their families over the years.”  He cited instances where military barracks have been upgraded in the up country and, of course, the recent procurement of hundreds or more vehicles by government in the enhancement of a conducive working atmosphere serving personnel.

The turning of the sod, which practically symbolizes the official launching of the project, was done by the president shortly after Mayor Bode Gibson poured libation to notable military ancestors to customarily ask them give their blessing to government initiative in the expansion of the Wilberforce Barracks.
