The Right Reverend Albert Beah was elected Bishop of the Methodist Church in Bo a month ago.

The Women’s Network, that is the first religious network in the country, is the umbrella organization for all women’s organizations in the Methodist Church Sierra Leone.

Right Reverend Albert Beah disclosed that since his election, he has attended about one to two women’s programs in the Methodist Church Sierra Leone, that he appreciates the visit of the Network, stressed that he needs prayers to overcome the challenges and underlined that he has a good team but lacks resources.

He added that he has been in office for only two weeks, served in Tongofields in the Kenema District for two years, that the Women’s Forum is the third women’s group in MCSL that has visited him since his election and promised to share his experiences with the Network with his wife and others.

According to the newly-elected Bishop, he would use every opportunity to talk about the Ebola virus in the country which he maintained “is real and killing people” citing the case of a nurse in Torma Bum in the Bonthe District who died recently of the virus.

He further enlightened that the Ebola virus was discovered by a Professor in 1976 in the Democratic Republic of Congo and stressed that the virus is getting out of situation in Sierra Leone due to poverty, cultural and traditional beliefs and informed that the church has decided that its members should not shake hands during the Holy Communion.

Led by the President of the Network, Mrs. Miranda Showers and a representative of female organizations of the Methodist Church Sierra Leone, Mrs. Showers hoped and prayed that God would direct and guide Right Reverend Albert Beah in his duties, appealed to him to be a good listener and take decisions like King Solomon.

She added that to lead is not an easy task and reiterated that the Network would continue to pray for God to direct Rev. Albert Beah and prayed that God would always help him in his deliberations.

Mrs. Miranda Showers further congratulated the newly-elected Bishop on behalf of the sisters in the regions and the Western Area and wished him and his term a prosperous and productive term of office.

The Chairperson of the Women’s Work Council of MCSL also joined in congratulating the newly-elected Bishop and highlighted the challenges of the women generally and the Women’s Network in particular.

The Chairperson of the ceremony, Mrs. Maude Regina Peacock, past President of the Network, among others articulated that she is delighted by the appointment of Rev. Albert Beah asserting that the choice was destined by God and prayed fervently that God would see him through.

She also congratulated the Bishop and his wife, who was unavoidably absent, highlighted that the Women’s Network faces numerous challenges but underscored “stand firm in Jesus Christ and face the challenge.”

According to Mrs. Peacock, the Network was formed in 1989, revealed that some of their local initiatives include the Skills Training Center at King Harman Road in Freetown, informed that plans are underway to revive the Ministers’ Wives Fellowship, organize fund raising activities instead of depending on donors and urged the Bishop to be bold in talking about the Network.

She informed that the Network is struggling with the construction of the Skills Training Center due to limited funds and a vehicle “to reach out and bring in” asserting that the building project is money well-spent and donated Le1 million towards the project.

Mrs. Peacock went on to appeal to the new Bishop to reach out to widows and the aged nationwide, to be humbled, the key to effective leadership, inter-personal relationships and to interact.

The Secretary of MCSL, Rev. Roland Bob-Williams informed that the Methodist Church is unique in many ways due to the vibrant women and admonished them to connect with all female organizations in the Church.

He continued that the new Bishop and his executive have started consolidating their work, assured the Network of their support stating that the Skills Training Center is a brilliant idea that would transform the lives of young girls and urged all to patronize the center.

Prayers were also offered for the Secretary of MCSL, Rev. Roland Bob-Williams and the Administrative Officer, Mr. A. R. Katta while the singing of the Network’s song climaxed the event.
