Airtel donates free CUG to Ministry of Health and Sanitation
On Saturday 14th June, 2014, AIrtel signed an agreement of partnership at the Central Medical Stores Office.
Airtel and UNFPA have together partnered with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation to combat the deadly Ebola disease.
Speaking at the ceremony, the country’s representative for UNFPA, Dr. Bannet Ndyanabangi said this partnership is a private and public one. “With this virus, we needed to communicate and so we approached Airtel and they agreed to partner with us by giving us a reduced rate for 150 phones plus SIM cards with free calls on them, he said. Dr. Bannet also revealed that his organization has set aside Le120 million to do training and behavioral check.
Managing Director of Airtel, Sudipto Chowdhury, said that Airtel’s objective will still continue to be the most loved brand by touching millions of lives. Airtel has created an automated website which is online tracking the mechanism. We are committed to such a partnership as we really want this deadly disease to be combated, he said.
The Minister of Health and Sanitation, Madam Yatta Kargbo, said that it is a great package from Airtel as we needed additional assistance as the level of death cases in the Kailahun district is really hitting. The Ministry is working on confirmed and suspected cases. Saving lives is our job and our needs have been met by Airtel.
The Hon Minister further stated that without technology this would only move at a snail’s pace. The UNFPA have also been working with the Ministry. With this, we will stop EBOLA from ravishing, she ended.
