On behalf of Prince Bandar Voice Of Islam Holds Conference On Unity
The Sierra Leone Muslim Missionaries Union together with other Islamic Organizations in Sierra Leone have organized the first international Islamic conference with the theme: “Unity and its role in stabilizing the communities in Sierra Leone.” Participants at the opening ceremony
This conference took place on the 25th May 2014 at the Miata conference hall. Alhaji Dr. Murtada Sesay as the chair man of the conference welcomed and thanked all the committees that worked together to make the conference successful.
“I learnt from the planning committee that with togetherness, every work can be done easily,” Dr Sesay says. The Voice of Islam Radio is undergoing restructuring and needs support of every Muslim for it to succeed in propagating Islam in Sierra Leone.
The president of Sierra Leone Muslim Missionaries Union (SLMMU) and MD of VOI, Sheikh Abdul Zaki Kallon in his welcoming address to the delegates, he said: “ I am the happiest of all”. He highlighted that the message of prophet Muhammad (SAW) includes everyone in his propagation and he concluded that Islam is the property of every Muslim regardless of his tribe or nationality.
Dr.Ibrahim Jalloh the Secretary General of SLMMU and the coordinator of the conferene said: “It is a big opportunity for us to get this conference organized by us on behalf of Prince Bandar bun Salman bun Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia. After this opening ceremony today, it is going to be followed by 2- day seminar on Monday and Tuesday at the Islamic center, 24 Circular Road in Freetown during which more than 20 research papers are going to be presented and discussed by Islamic and University Lecturers among 60 participants from across the country. The First day, the first session is going to be chaired by the City Imam Sheikh Abu Bakar Conteh while the second day is going to handled by Sierra Leone’s former Ambassador to Iran, Hajiah Alarie Cole.
The opening ceremony was graced by the deputy minister of Social Welfare Gender & Children’s Affair, Mr. Mustapha Bai Ateilla on behalf of the government, Mr. Abdulai Berete from the office of government spokes man represented the minister of Information Alhaji Alpha Kanu, Mr Unisa Sesay, the head of the press at state house, the Sierra Leone Police was represented by Assistant Inspector General of Police, Madam Elizabets Turay (Director of Gender), the Sierra Leone Armed Forces(RSLAF), was represented by its chief Imam, Lt. Col. Alhaji Bilal Conteh, the Sierra Leone prisons Service was represented by Chief Imam Alhaji Sankoh.
Journalists from various media houses, senior government officers, host of Islamic organizations, retired government functionaries were all in attendance. The whole programme is going to end on Tuesday May 27 2014.
