President Koroma Inspects World Class Conference Center in Sierra Leone

President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma yesterday 26th May encouraged private sector players to utilize the facilities created by government to help effect a turnaround in the hospitality industry.

President Koroma made this comment while touring the newly refurbished Bintumani International Conference Center at Aberdeen that was funded by NASSIT worth approximately $15 million.

“This conference centre is very impressive as we can now host international conferences like the MRU, ECOWAS and even the AU,” the President said.

President Koroma was led on the well-guided tour by the Chairman, NASSIT Board of Trustees, Mr. Jacob Kanu, the Acting Director-General of NASSIT, Mr. Joseph Mans Jr. and other management staff.

The Conference center comprises a seating capacity of 620 to 700 people, 3 additional conference centers, a banquet hall, presidential lounge, 4 interpreter rooms, audio-visual component with world class recording and mixing equipment and 1,000 watts amplifiers and lightening equipment, video conferencing hall, helipad, parking space for up to 1,000 cars and a reserved land for further development.

The refurbishment, which was three years late on deadline, was carried out by Sierra Construction Systems (SCS) and consultant architect, Garber and Co.

“The project was initially underestimated but we tried our best to deliver a conference center of world class standard,” Project Officer Tejan Kellah said, and added that the biggest advantage of the conference center unlike other conference centers in the country and in neighbouring countries is that it is handicap/disabled friendly with separate entrances and toilets.
