Diaspora World Cup Match Report – Sierra Leone (Sierra Rangers) Vs Liberia (Debamu)
It was a tepid and weak performance from Sierra Rangers, and a win would have helped build confidence and move us in the 2nd place of our Group.
As with the England game, ABK (assistant coach) started with an unfamiliar line-up featuring Issa kamara partnering Francis in the center of midfield, Kelly Marrah on the left, Pa Foday on the right and Pele starting up front with Rashid aka Wavy. The opening minutes were littered with errors and we looked by far the better team. Our passing was sloppy and often misguided – easily giving possession away on too many occasions. The Liberian too had a poor start and was punished after six minutes in the first half with a PK awarded to Sierra Rangers after Kelly Marrah was brought down in the box. Pele (former Johannsen player) stepped up to take the PK but was saved by the Liberian goalie. Sierra Rangers will be worried to have conceded from what was essentially a simple set-piece. It was Keem who let his man go after ball-watching, and another example of his defensive frailties.
The first game goal came 3 minutes after the start of the second half when PA Sallu former Sierra Rangers player was brought down in the box. The Debamu FC striker made no mistakes in putting his team 1 up. There was a real lack of urgency from the Sierra Rangers players. The midfield looked disjointed and assistant coach ABK made a tactical switch by bringing Bako in the midfield and Tony Flex replacing Wavy up top. The moved paid off as we got the equalizer from Pele who is arguably the best player in the league. Most of the attacking on the left flank came from an overlapping Ibrahim Kamara. Kelly Marrah on the right failed to impress with too many misplaced passes and some weak crosses. Francis tried his best to impose himself on the game with some aggressive sliding challenges. The best chance of game came on 13 minutes when Kelly was put through by Bako who later made a nice pass for a running Pele, but fired a tame shot just wide. Soon after that Debamu FC break on a counter and Abdulai was shown a red card after picking up his second yellow for obstruction. I change the formations after the red card we played with a 4-4-1 formation we still had couple of chances to win the game but we did not take advantage of our chances.
The final score was 1-1. It was not a fine performance even though we had chances to put the game away. Going into this derby game, we had so much confidence in getting a win. But we missed most of our key players like Johnny, Godwin, Mo, Kolozay and Almamy Jabbie. We are still very proud of all of the players as they did not give up fighting back. We will now put this game behind us and get ready for our next game against Turkey. www.diasporaworldcup.com
