SLAJ Electoral Commission decision on petition of elected SWASAL officials

The Electoral Commission of SLAJ has critically looked into the petition against the four elected SWASAL National executive members listed below and has confirmed that they hold positions in the respective sporting bodies in contravention of the SWASAL Constitution:

1. Musa Sesay – Head of Media Committee – Ports Authority Football Club, PRO Single Legged Amputee Sports Club.
2. Sahr Morris Junior – Media Officer – Ports Authority Football Club/Sierra Leone Football Association.
3. Bernard Turay – Public Relations Officer (1) National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone (NOCSL), PRO National Cycling Association, PRO Old Edwardians  FC. 
4. Alhaji Kelfala Tarawalie – Secretary General, Mighty Blackpool Fan Club, Chairman, Kingtom Football Association (KAFA), Secretary General/ Public relations Officer, Me and My Boys Football Club.

The affected persons are in breach of Article 11(2) and 11(3) of the revised SWASAL Constitution of 2009 which state thus:

11(2) Any member of the national executive who is appointed to serve in any sporting association must resign his/her position in SWASAL to avoid conflict of interest.

11(3) SWASAL members holding executive positions in any sporting association shall not be eligible to contest for any position.

By the powers vested in the Electoral Commission by the SLAJ Constitution, The Commission rules thus: The affected elected officials holding positions in other sporting bodies are disqualified forthwith. The following positions are hereby declared vacant in the SWASAL National Executive: Vice President, Assistant Secretary General, Financial secretary and Organising secretary. Elections for these vacant positions will be conducted at a later date.

However, the Commission wishes to state that if any of the disqualified officials resigns his/her position(s) in the other sporting body(ies) within 48 hours after this release, he/she will be reinstated. Otherwise he/she shall no longer be eligible to contest for any of the executive position.
