ehospice short-listed in The Charity Awards

ehospice – the palliative care news website and app that shares knowledge and best practice among hospice and palliative care professionals around the world – has made it to the short-list of The Charity Awards, Civil Society Media’s annual awards.

The African Palliative Care Association (APCA) who are based in Kampala, Uganda and who manage the Africa edition of ehospice has today welcomed the short-listing, describing it as a ‘testament to their staff’s hard work and commitment to furthering palliative care’.

The Charity Awards aim to identify, recognise and reward organisations doing exceptional work in all areas of charitable activity. ehospice has been shortlisted in the ‘Healthcare and Medical Research’ category.

This year’s awards will culminate in a glittering gala dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Thursday 12th June 2014. British comedian Stephen Frost will host the evening.

ehospice was set up to connect the wide range of different professionals working in end of life care across the world, by offering a central platform where they can access the latest developments in the sector, collaborate and share knowledge.

Less than two years old, ehospice now has 12 editions from around the world and has recently continued its global expansion with the launch of an edition in Latin America published in both Spanish and Portuguese. APCA manages the African edition.

The award nominees will be judged by a panel of voluntary sector heavyweights, each of them leaders in their own fields with years of experience of leading and managing Civil Society organisations. To decide the winners, the judges will assess each entry against ten Hallmarks of Excellence – ten traits or attributes that should be present in any successful project. Some applicants will score better against some Hallmarks than others, but the charities that win awards will be those charities that score highly against most, if not all, of these Hallmarks.

Commenting on the shortlisting, Daniel Ward, ehospice Project Manager, said:

“We are delighted that ehospice has made it to the shortlist of these prestigious awards – a notable achievement, particularly given it was launched less than two years ago.

“ehospice strives to share knowledge and expertise about hospice and palliative care to a wider audience, so it is great to see our work recognised as a beacon of best practice in this area.”

Steve Hynd, the editor of Africa edition of ehospice added,

“I am delighted that ehospice has been shortlisted for these prestigious awards. All across Africa patients are suffering needless and preventable pain. ehospice plays an invaluable role in educating and raising awareness of palliative care which in turns impacts on improving the quality of care for patients.”
