Plans afloat to construct APC party office in Kambia

Kambia, May 6 (SLENA) – Unlike other parts of the country where APC ruling party members might be waiting for a windfall from the national leadership of the party, those in the Kambia District have resolved to push ahead with the construction of a district party office.  (Photo: Scene at the Madina Conference hall…Alimamy Petito at the centre of it all)

The idea was concretised at a Constituency Executive Members’ meeting recently held in Constituency 39.

These meetings, which require the presence of Members of Parliament, Ward Councillors, Youth and Women leaders, are conducted on rotational basis and at regular intervals.

The decision to construct an APC office in Kambia was pronounced by the District Chairman of the Party, Hon. Alimamy Philip Koroma otherwise known as ‘Alimamy Petito’.

As outlined in his opening remarks, the cardinal purpose for such meetings is to brief members on current developments, inform them about certain plans of action the party intends to undertake and to as well provide a window of opportunity for even ordinary members to factor in their contributions for workable methods through which unity can be fostered.

This was buttressed by the ‘Mandela’ of Tonko Limba Chiefdom, Ambassador Alhajie Sulaiman Dauda Kamara who is also the Special Adviser to President Ernest Bai Koroma.

In his capacity as Chairman of the deliberations, he stressed the need for said the idea for such meetings is so unique and brilliant that it ought to be replicated even at Ward and Section levels. He therefore thanked the organises for bringing the party to Tonko in such a grand style after several decades.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Member of Parliament for Constituency 39,  Hon. Patrick Lahai said his cnstituency is always been 100 percent in support of the All Peoples Congress party, saying there was nothing adverse to report largely because the concerns of ordinary and grass root supporters are held in high esteem as a way of taking the party to the door steps of the people themselves, as prescribed by the likes of President Siaka Stevens and Vice President C.A Kamara Taylor both of blessed memory.

The Member of Parliament went on to explain how his constituents are so united in the fight to actualise their dreams, that they were now the proud beneficiaries of two rural banks and two secondary schools, a newly constructed market, a chiefdom stadium and several Agricultural Business Centres in addition to the lots and lots of feeder roads, as well as the Cash for Work Project facilitated by the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA.

The District Council Chairman, S.A.S Sankoh , used the occasion to thank the Minister of Agriculture,  Dr. Joseph Sam Sesay and the Commissioner of NaCSA, Konthon Sesay for their immense service in terms of constructing roads, schools and health centres especially in deprived areas of the District.

He however appealed for the extension of the solar street lights to other parts of the district. Additional appeals were made by the Chiefdom Speaker, Pa Alimamy, the Youth and Women leaders, respectively, who emphasised on the supply of water, the rehabilitation of the community radio in Madina , the construction of the Kambia/ Madina Highway, together with Micro credit facilities for Women.

In his Keynote address,Dr. Joseph Sam Sesay said Tonko Limba is the first pillar of the All Peoples Congress and the Chiefdom that has been able to provide the Party with its very first Secretary General in the person of C .A. Kamara Taylor and the current Special Adviser to President Ernest Bai Koroma, Ambassador Alhajie Dauda Sulaiman Kamara.

He said the people of that constituency have continued setting the pace in carving out leadership initiatives citing the Electoral College as well as the ongoing rotational constituency Executive Meetings.

Dr. Sam Sesay went on to give update of key development projects undertaken by the Constituency Executive including a settlement with Land owners over the places leased by the late C.A Kamara Taylor, the presentation of bicycles to Ward Committees, the provision of jobs and award of Scholarships to some of the failed or deprived aspirants in the last General Elections.

Dr. Sesay received a deafening applaud when he disclosed that President Koroma has resolved to construct the much talked about Kambia-Madina road and that plans were already afoot to commence work.  He zeroed down with a special thank you message to President Koroma and Government for the untiring efforts in enhancing developments in their constituency and rebranding the entire country.

Apart from the home going of the Sports Minister, Paul Kamara who seized the opportunity to inform the gathering that he is indeed an indigene of Kontha and Numeya villages in Tonko Limba by donating about half a dozen footballs to the chiefdom, the meeting was climaxed by an awareness raising on the pending National Census, the Constitutional Review and the deadly Ebola Virus with highlights on its preventive measures.
