Petition on the Election of SWASAL Officials

Petition on the Election of SWASAL Officials

On Monday March 8, 2010, within 48 hours deadline after the official results of the SWASAL Election was announced, the Electoral Commission of SLAJ received a petition from Sorie Ibrahim Sesay, a fully registered SWASAL member, against the election of the following officials:

  1. Musa Sesay – Vice President
  2. Sahr Morris Junior – Asst. Secretary General
  3. Bernard Turay – Financial Secretary
  4. Alhaji Kelfala Tarawallie – Organising Secretary

The grounds of the petition are found in Article 11 (2) and 11(3) of the Revised SWASAL Constitution which state thus:

11(2) Any member of the national executive who is appointed to serve in any sporting association must resign his/her position in SWASAL to avoid conflict of interest.

11(3) SWASAL members holding executive positions in any sporting association shall not be eligible to contest for any position.

The petitioner claims that the above named persons are currently holding positions in other sporting bodies and hence not qualified to contest for any SWASAL executive position.

The Commission, after consultation with the SLAJ Executive has critically examined the matter and would like to meet with the membership of SWASAL to communicate its decision.

In view of this, all SWASAL members including the elected officials are invited to a meeting on Monday, March 22, 2010 at the SLAJ headquarters at 12 noon.

Signed: Ransford S.C.Wright, Chief Electoral Commission
