IAMTECH romances with Accountant General

The Accountant General in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, Mr. Kebbay Koroma, has engaged students of the Institute of Advanced Management and Technology (IAMTECH) in a public lecture on “Accountability, ethics and values in the public service, a financial management perspective.” Speaking to students on Friday, February 7 at the inauguration ceremony of the Association of Accounting Students headed by Mr. Vincent Jabbie Momoh, the Accountant General stressed on the integrity of the public service and its role in the development of any nation, noting that before talking about transparency, accountability must first come into play.

He lectured the students on the professional ethics of accounting, stressing that an accounting student must first of all like the profession and be ready to preserve the ethics of the accounting profession.

Mr. Kebbay Koroma highlighted some of the values he always tries to maintain in his department to ensure proper functions to meet professional standards. He disclosed that his office is open for clarification about Government funds and that nobody influences him to disburse funds for unjustifiable causes as he is just a custodian of government funds.

He advised  students to go in line with information technology as one cannot attain any serious office or participate globally without being technologically literate.

The Principal of IAMTECH, Madam Abie Kamara, noted that she is proud of the institution’s achievements over the years as one of those taking the lead at the moment within the educational circles of the country.

She said that the institution has made serious headways in the academic arena of the country and has won the Best Academic Institution of the Year 2012 from the All Walks of Life (AWOL).

Mrs. Kamara admonished the students to continue working hard to put the college on the global world. She encouraged parents not to hesitate to send their children to the college, assuring them that they have high values and integrity.

In his inauguration speech, the President of the Association Mr. Vincent Jabbie Momoh, noted that the day is historic for the Association of Accounting Students (AAS) and IAMTECH for the Accountant General to lecture them.

He explained that IAMTECH is doing well to build the human resource capacity of the country. He added that the university is currently undertaking unique courses that are targeting the job market and providing very good access to sound learning for students, twenty four hours electricity, good learning environment all of which he said earned the institution as the Best Academic Institution 2012 by AWOL. Mr. Momoh noted that both past and present Governments have discriminated most of the students in private institutions by not giving them grants-in-aid and scholarships. He appealed to Government and donors to assist them as they are all citizens of this nation.
