Freetown, Feb. 3 (SLENA) – Member of Parliament of Constituency 045 in Kurobola,  Koinadugu District, Hon. Lahai Marah has told parliament that standards in education in his constituency are fallen  rapidly due to several factors.  (Photo: Hon. Lahai Marrah … not happy )

The MP lamented that there is only one Junior secondary school in Kurobola town catering for thousands of school going children, stating that the children are finding it very difficult to learn. He added that for pupils to enter senior secondary school they have to travel hundreds of miles to the headquarter town in Kabala.

He said in a situation like that many young girls suffer sexual abuse while accessing senior secondary schools in Kabala. He went further to accuse the  Acting principal of the only secondary school in Kurubola, Mr. Sheku T. Marah of impregnating  school going pupils and has also taken nine wives,  all of them being  school going children.

Hon. Lahai was contributing last week to the President’s address in the well of parliament wherein he commended the President for the positive strides his government is taking in the development of education and efforts to promote the agenda for prosperity around the country.

Still in his statement, Hon. Marah noted that the Kurobola Junior Secondary School is not approved and supported by the Ministry of Education. He therefore used the occasion to appeal to the minister and the ministry of education to support the school.

He also called on the authorities to investigate the Acting principal as he continues to violate the rights of school children in that town.
