RADA ends travelling conference
Bo, Jan. 29 (SLENA) – Rehabilitation and Development Agency (RADA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Welfare Gender and Children’s Affairs, South, and other partners including Men for Gender Equality, has concluded a traveling conference and consultation meetings with stakeholders at various locations in the Bo, Bonthe, Moyamba and Pujehun Districts.
The traveling conference and consultative meetings formed part of the sixteen days of activism commemorated every 8-25th December annually on the theme: ‘From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World – Lets Challenge militarism and end Violence against Women’.
With support from Christian Aid, the traveling conference and consultative meetings aimed at popularizing the importance of men taking the lead in the fight against gender based violence, identify and prioritize an action plan for engaging men and boys in combating GBV cases especially sexual exploitation against young girls, boys and children generally.
Giving an overview of the programme, RADA –SL Programme Manager, Ann Sesay Brima, said the programme was organized because of the positive outcome of the International Women’s Day commemorated on May 8 every year, with men and boys taking lead roles in the discussions.
According to her, the activity is also in line with the masculinity training recently, attended by the male staff of RADA SL and other NGOs who agreed to form themselves into a group called Men for Gender Equality, condemning all forms of violence against women through a press release shortly after the training.
The conference forum, she noted, took a different form of campaign in the sense that men advocate to their male counterparts to give the campaign the required importance and advantage, since men are most receptive to the men to men dialogue approach than any other methodology.
