Sanda Magbonlothon chieftaincy election may be nullified

Port Loko. December 11 (SLENA) – The result of the first of the series of Paramount Chieftaincy Elections scheduled against the close of 2013 is said to have been slammed with a court injunction barely hours after its conduct at the chiefdom headquarter town of Sendugu  in the of Port Loko district.

Unconfirmed sources speak of how the matter has been dragged to Court by one Dauda M Sesay of the Kinthor Limba Ruling House. He had earlier petitioned all the other candidates that claimed to have hailed from the Kinthor Ruling House with the argument that there is no such a ruling house in the Sanda Magbonlonton Paramount Chieftaincy Ruling Houses.

Even though he had since refrained himself from taking part in the process after the issue was put to a vote by the Provincial secretary  in which 280 Tribal Authorities voted in support of the existence of a Kinthor Ruling House as against the 8 people who voted on the contrary, he  does not seem to have been treated with the deserved seriousness. Not even when he threatened to resort to a legal line of action..

The Sanda Magbonlonton Paramount Chieftaincy Elections were subsequently conducted on Monday 2nd. December 2013 by Staff of the National Electoral Commission with the help of the  Provincial Secretary, Raymond Gbindi as Chairman together with Paramount Chiefs Kasangha II of Bombali Shebora and Koblo Queen of Marampa Chiefdoms as Assessor Chiefs.

Eleven Candidates went to the polls but none  was able to secure the 55% required for the pronouncement of a winner. However, Sattie Sesay of the Turay Ruling House who pulled 52 votes with a 14 % and Alhajie Issa Sesay of the Kinthor Ruling House who scored 95 votes with a 25 % were qualified for the run off.

In the end, 58-year old Sattie Sesay came out with 147 votes while Alhajie Issa Sesay emerged with a total of 202 votes. Alhajie Issa Sesay was therefore declared the Paramount Chief Elect for Sanda Magbonlonton, one of the most deprived Chiefdoms in the Port Loko District.
