NPA Chief visits cable victims
The General Manager of the National Power Authority (NPA) Dr. Zubairu Ahmed Kaloko (in photo) yesterday together with other senior staff paid a courtesy call at the Government Satellite Hospital at Rokupa to sympathize with the families of the deceased and injured people affected by the cable disaster which occurred on Sunday, November 17 this year at the Portee Market.
Consoling the victims, Dr. Kaloko admonished them to take heart as this has been ordained by God.
He informed the gathering that when he received the information, he was totally disturbed as no one envisaged the accident.
He said as a responsible parastatal, Management has thought it fit to call on the victims as well as the bereaved families to sympathize with them for this unfortunate incident.
He assured the victims that they will assist with their medication as well as take precautionary measures in the future to avert a repetition of such an accident.
The victims on their part expressed appreciation to the Management of NPA, stressing that they are aware that it has not been the fault of NPA.
They however called for a relocation of the market space so that they will move from underneath the eleven thousand voltage cable.
A total of nineteen people were involved in the accident amongst which two died in the persons of Miss Beatrice Sylvah and twelve year old Kadiatu Toronka.
Among the injured are Rugiatu Barrie of Portee, Binta Mathew of 34 Upper Approved School, Fatmata Kamara of 11 Wharf Road, Portee and Fatmata Sankoh of Old-Railway Line, Potee.
