WACA: a school for sciences gets gradual recognition

Barely three years ago, was the establishment of a school meant to focus on the promotion of sciences. It is the “Welfare for African Children and the Aged” (WACA). WACA School is situated at 4 Campbell Street in Makeni. Dr Amara A.S.Kally is also proprietor of WACA.  He said that the school basically offers Sciences, Commercial/Technical and Art subjects. It is a junior and senior Secondary School, currently with a total of 78 pupils, out of whom, many are orphans, and cannot meet with plenty of the financial challenges, regardless dealing with whom the proprietors described as “less income earners”.

This year for the first time, the school is attempting the Basic Educational Certificate Examinations (BECE). By next year, it is preparing for the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE)   says co-proprietor, Chief John Kobbah Sesay.

Mr. John Kobbah Sesay said that WACA is primarily focused on reducing drop out rate, engage street children and teenage mothers in schooling activities,  as well as its determination to fill the gaps through provision of more spaces with regards the growing population in schools and challenging costs.

In line with that, Mr. Sesay pursued, it is bestowed on government, non-governmental and humanitarian organizations to see reason, either by visiting the School as a means of ascertaining some of its acute challenges  and performances of the pupils for wider assistance and gesture.

Mr. Sesay also hastily noted that, looking at the size of the rented structure the school currently occupies, the school takes on two attending shifts (morning/afternoon), notwithstanding plans to relocate the school to a permanent site, shortly. The co-proprietor recalled that congestion in class and schools, equally affects the authorities on frequency, discipline, supervision and monitoring. Carefully looking at all of these, we choose to implement a two shift system to help groom the pupils efficiently, Mr. Sesay exhausted.

However, some of the parents have confirmed part of the school’s efficiency, since its quite establishment, three years ago. Ya-Marie Kamara gave testimony that her daughter is doing extremely well in one of the leading schools in Makeni after she had spent two years at WACA.  Ya-Marie schooled that plenty of these small schools are often productive that bigger schools whose population greatly the children and the authorities.
