Hon. Thomas B Turay invites Italian-African Youth Enterprise Developers to Sierra Leone

The delegation during their brief stay will discuss with relevant stakeholders on training of African young people who live Sierra Leone in order to develop new start-up companies and toset up Italian-African Enterprise Incubator in a specific district in Sierra Leone.

It could be recalled that few months back Hon. Thomas B Turay was invited to attend the Swiss Summit of leaders in Switzerland – Monteux in which he did five minutes presentation on potential investment opportunities in Sierra Leone.

As a result of the visit a delegation from Italy headed by Prof. Vittorio Colizzi and Mancino Giorgio who has a wealth of experience on youth development and health are in the country to discuss business with the government of Sierra Leone.

According to Hon. Thomas B Turay of constituency 35 the economy and social development of Africa need a new generation of people who are able to create new opportunity in the industrial development of the Continent.

He stated that each year thousands of Africans are educated in the European and Italian universities, but the number of skilled people going back to their home country is less than 10% and this brain drain affects the diffusion of knowledge and innovation in Africa.

This project he said is aimed at addressing Youth unemployment in Sierra Leone,  Extreme difficulty in valorizing young talents and consequent “brain drain” of the most promising Sierra Leonean to Europe, Lack of a “social entrepreneurship mentality” (both in Sierra Leone and in Italy), meaning the idea of setting up financially viable businesses addressed at solving social problems.

Moreover, he said the project will also involve a few young talented Italians who aim at starting their own social business in a developing country.  The idea is to start form this talented young people and help them develop their own Country.

The overall aim is to foster the development of a breeding ground for Sierra Leonean social innovators in order to help them realize their projects, through training of skilled young Africans to start up social businesses in Sierra Leone.

Hon. Thomas B Turay of constituency 35said in order to have a positive and sustainable impact both on the social and the employment side of the society they will set up a new business incubator in a specific city or district with the aim of strengthening the business models of the disruptive social ideas raised in Sierra Leone and help them to be financially sustainable to Promote private and public investments in social start-ups in Sierra Leone.

The participation will be free and open to all young talented would-be entrepreneurs from Italy and from West and Central Africa who are interested in starting up a new social business in Sierra Leone.

The project will be diffused both in Italy and in Sierra Leone, through Universities, local incubators, social media and specialized networks.

The training will be organized and provided by the UNESCO Chair of the University of Rome Tor Vergata and by not academic partner on this field with specific expertise. The team – composed of 5-6 professionals in the fields of business modeling, marketing, business planning, risk evaluation and project design – uses non formal education and new methods of advisory in each of its activities. At the end of the course, each team will be able to clearly present its social business project to potential investors or stakeholders.
