Conclusion of the SWASAL National Elections

The Electoral Commission of SLAJ has conducted the National Elections of the Sierra Leone Sports Writers Association (SWASAL) on Saturday, March 6, 2010 and the following people have been duly elected unchallenged for the positions against their names:

Mohamed Fajah Barrie – President
Musa Sesay – Vice President
Frank Magnus Ernest Cole – Secretary General
Sahr Morris Jr – Assistant Secretary General
Bernard Turay – Financial Secretary
Sulaiman Storm Koroma – Public Relations Officer
Alhaji K. Tarawally – Organising Secretary

The Commission also wishes it to be known that nominations were not approved in the Southern, Eastern and Northern Regions because they did not meet the Constitutional requirement. According to Article 15 of the SWASAL constitution:

“There shall be branches of SWASAL in each of the three regions of Sierra Leone provided that at least 10 full members of SWASAL reside and work in that region.”

But according to the list of registered members submitted to the Electoral Commission by the Interim body set up by SLAJ, none of the regions met this requirement. In view of the aforementioned, the Electoral Commission recommends that the list of registered members in the region be updated by the new executive and the commission will conduct elections at the regions within the next three months.

Petition can be filed not later than 48 hrs after the publication of this release.

Ransford S.C. Wright, Chief Electoral Commissioner

Mustapha M.K Sesay, National Secretary General, SLAJ
