SWASAL National Election
The Electoral Commission of SLAJ wishes to inform all sports writers that by the close of nominations on February 24, 2010 for executive positions in the SWASAL National Election scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 6, 2010, the following people have been duly nominated for positions against their names:
Mohamed Fajah Barrie –Nominated for the position of President Musa Sesay – Nominated for the position of Vice President Frank Magnus Ernest Cole -Nominated for the position of Secretary General Sahr Morris Jr – Nominated for the position of Assistant Secretary General Bernard Turay – Nominated for the position of Financial Secretary Sulaiman Storm Koroma – Nominated for the position of Public Relations Officer Alhaji K. Tarawally – Nominated for the position of Organising SecretaryThese individuals have been declared candidates in view of the fact that till date the Electoral Commission has not received any formal petition against their candidacy by any registered SWASAL member.
The Commission also wishes it to be known that no nominations have been approved in the Southern, Eastern and Northern Regions because they did not meet the Constitutional requirement. According to Article 15 of the 2009 Revised SWASAL Constitution:
“There shall be branches of SWASAL in each of the three regions of Sierra Leone provided that at least 10 full members of SWASAL reside and work in that region.â€
According to the list of registered members submitted to the Electoral Commission by the Interim body set up by SLAJ, none of the regions met this requirement. In view of the aforementioned, the Electoral Commission regrets to announce that it cannot conduct elections in the regions at the moment.
