$70,000 judo complex for Bo city
Bo, Nov. 13 (SLENA) – The International Judo Federation (IJF) in Hungary has provided the sum total of $70,000 for the construction of a judo academy in Bo city.
Briefing SLENA recently in Bo, the National President of the local Judo Association, Mr. Idrissa Massaquoi who also doubles as National Chairman, Sierra Leone Martial Art Federation (SLMAF) said the 1,460 metre complex which construction has already started, will comprise of indoor mini stadium that will accommodate about 360 spectators.
The academy, Mr. Massaquoi added, will also have a reception centre, public toilet for both sexes, dressing room for both local and foreign teams, an administrative office and a fitness room for equipment which he said will also benefit weight lifters.
Mr. Massaquoi said Sierra Leone is one among two African countries including the Republic Chad that are benefiting from the project following a three year assessment on the need to improve on the various martial art disciplines including judo, karate and kick-boxing in the region.
He said a Sierra Leonean Judo expert in-charge of West Africa, Gabriel Sata facilitated the funding through a report he presented to his partners in Hungary about the status of judo in the country.
