Free Health Care drugs missing at Kingtom warehouse

It has been disclosed by a reliable source that 38 cartons of Free Health Care drugs were recently stolen from the Kingtom warehouse in Freetown estimated at $6,782.58. The source also explained that the Ministry of Health and Sanitation has expressed serious concern over the alleged stolen drugs.  He also explained that the Ministry and UNICEF are the main partners in the drugs storage and distribution currently relocating the drugs and medical supplies from Kingtom to the FAWAZ Building at Ferry Junction, Kissy, during which a pallet of drugs went missing as reported by the Central Medical Stores Pharmacy Technician.

The source stated that the Ministry and UNICEF have mounted administrative investigations and are supporting the Police in their investigations.

He also stated that the Ministry views the act as destructive, and growing criminal act that will jeopardise the whole Free Health Care Initiative and have the potential to deter further donor support for the Free Health Care Initiative.

He revealed that another round of distribution of Free Health Care drugs and medical supplies has been successfully completed as more than one hundred different types of drugs have been transported from the Central Medical Stores to all thirteen District Medical Stores across the country, for onward distribution to all one thousand, two hundred health centres between now and the end of next week.

He stated that the ongoing distribution is to ensure that the health centres do not face stock outs, and could provide women and children of Sierra Leone with quality accessible and affordable medical care and supplies.

He pointed out that the distribution is done with support from UNICEF, other partners, civil society and the Police.
