Martin Lawrence Foundation launched

Tuesday, November 6 this year marked the official launching of the Martin Lawrence Foundation at the Africel American Corner at Bathurst Street in Freetown.

Giving a brief background, the Chairman of the event, Mr Patrick Swaray Junior, said the two men were great friends but they have now become blood brothers because of the intimacy they have developed over the years.

He explained that these two men toiled very hard to become successful in life and have now thought it fit to help those that are undergoing the same struggles which they have went through in their life.

Making a statement, one of the Chief Executive Officers, Martin N. Boima expressed happiness for officially unveiling their organization on that day but he was quick to state that he always felt bad when he sees other people suffering. He further intimated that he was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth but that through hard work he had become successful in life.

He revealed that Martin Lawrence Foundation was initiated in 2010 to help the underprivileged, street children and the homeless to build their capacities to become self-reliant in future.

He said his organization is non-political, non-profit making, and voluntary in service to humanity.

He explained that in their work, they normally take street children from the street and place them in institutions where they can learn basic skills like carpentry, tailoring, metal work and other skills, while they pay school fees for others who may want to attend school and pursue formal education.

He maintained that they see hope where there is hopelessness and see greatness where others see impossibilities and wretchedness.

He said their principles are service, literacy, health, charity, development and capacity building among others. He revealed that they also offer free computer classes for all classes of people especially the under privileged.

He elaborated that their vision is to seek out the under privilege youths and street children between the ages of eight and twenty five.

Giving testimonies of success stories by some beneficiaries, Mr. David Chares Pratt, said the Martin and Laurence Foundation has motivated him so much and given him hope to believe that money is not the only thing you should give to a man to make him happy but education counts more than everything else in life.

Another beneficiary, Mr. Peter Robert, who said that he has just sat to the WASSCE, said he saw love and hope in Martin and Lawrence and what they have has done for him will last with him forever.

In his remarks, Mr. Lawrence revealed that they  have distributed learning materials to forty Primary school children including exercise books, pencils , pens, crayons , erasers etc. at the Police Primary School at Kingtom in Freetown.
