‘Pat Sowe never sold state lands’ – Aide says
An Aide to the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Captain Alieu Pat Sowe (in photo), who was Minister of Lands, Country Planning and the Environment, has said that the allegations by some newspapers that Captain Alieu Pat Sowe was involved in the sale of state lands at Babadorie in the west end of Freetown when he was Lands Minister, are false, baseless and meant only to create mischief.
He continued that the Lands Ministry has existed long before the appointment of Captain Alieu Pat Sowe as Minister of that Ministry, stressing that the sale of land at Babadorie has been taking place long before his appointment as Minister of Lands.
He explained that a lot of people had bought and developed plots of land in the Babadorie community even before Captain Alieu Pat Sow became Lands Minister.
He maintained that there was therefore no possibility for Captain Alieu Pat Sowe to sell such lands to wealthy people as most of them had developed their lands long before his appointment as Lands minister.
He disclosed that when Captain Alieu Pat Sowe became Lands Minister he introduced a transparent system of land acquisition through a freehold system in which members of the public can apply for a piece of land as freehold for private use.
He maintained that as a result of this system, many citizens of this country acquired land through a very transparent manner.
He noted that if Sierra Leone can boast of a Land Policy it is the handiwork of Captain Alieu Pat Sowe when he served as Lands Minister.
He concluded that since he left that Ministry and was appointed to his present position nobody has ever raised a finger of accusation against him, but that he continues to be praised by the people of this country because of the honest manner in which he conducted land issues.
