In Sierra Leone – Freedom of Information Bill may pass this month
The Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, Mr. Theo Nicol, has told the general public that the passing of the Freedom of Information [FOI] Bill into law remains one of the conditions that they as government are determined to fulfill after years of campaigning by civil society, Journalists, musicians, and the general public.
He made the disclosure during the usual weekly government press briefing past Thursday in the conference hall of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Youyi Building in Freetown.
The Minister said it was clear that the public wants the bill to be enacted as soon as possible but was quick to point out that the bill does not give one hundred percent freedom because, as he put it, it has limitations that every individual is expected to observe or else he or she may face the full penalty of the law.
He said he was very optimistic that the may be passed into law before the end of this month week, and urged all Sierra Leoneans to do things within the ambit of the law.
