SLPP UK handing over ceremony

SLPP UK handing over ceremony

The SLPP UK/Ireland executive came into office two years ago in a free, fair election.  On Sunday, 29th September 2013 our executive has officially handed over power, staff and all party documents to the council of elders.  The handing over ceremony went on very well in a friendly and brotherly atmosphere.

The entire membership thanked the outgoing executive for the brilliant job done. Yes I am correct to ascertain that we did deliver nationally and globally. And it was in this vain that the branch decided to recognise the outgoing executive member’s performance by awarding plaques for a job well done.  These were engraved with names and positions held.

About half an hour after the presentation of these plaques by our council of elders, the National Chairman Chief Somanoh Kapen and the National Organizing Secretary Mr. Sheku Kondeh arrived at the hall.  Their visit was symbolic and received a thunderous welcome from the entire membership.

The humbled Chairman greeted the membership and gave a brief history about our party (SLPP), which was formed in 1951.  He reminded the audience that, when the SLPP was formed it was his uncle  Bai Farama Tass III who would have become the first SLPP leader but instead willingly gave up that intension for Sir Milton Margai to become leader.

Again, “by deeds of history, the South Easterners decided to elect a Northerner (Temne), a traditional ruler as the National Chairman and Leader” he added.

Hence, the APC propaganda that SLPP is a Mende man party is now a cliché with no place in our society.

The outgoing chairman of SLPP UK/ Ireland welcomed the entourage to the UK. Their visit was mainly to meet the SLPP UK/Ireland branch and to also attend the ongoing UK Conservative Party Conference in Manchester.

The SLPP National Chairman Chief Somanoh Kapen responded to the welcome address with a brilliant speech. He gave a detailed history of the SLPP party since 1951. He recalled a list of founder/pioneer members referring to it as the act of history.

He reiterated that the myth/ mindset that the SLPP is a Mende man party have been eradicated. He also emphasised on the dis-mystification of myths like the SLPP is an elitist party.  He added that the challenges are many and complex, reminded us of the adage that “united we stand divided we fall”.  He maintained that the APC has divided the people of Sierra Leone.  He further stated that SLPP the biggest opposition party has let the people down as we linger in disorganisation that we should think of our forefather’s legacy and work to preserve and uphold it. As a result of the APC’s bad governance today our country is at the bottom of human development, hence SLPP with a quality leadership is the only hope for our folks in bringing development and prosperity to our beloved Sierra Leone.

He ended his speech with a lot of emphasis on unity in the party.

ONE COUNTRY; ONE PEOPLE!
