China Kingho donates water containers and learning materials to deprived communities in Sierra Leone

In a bid to promote quality education and improve the storage of drinking water in rural communities China Kingho Sierra Leone has donated 500 water containers to residents of Tane Chiefdom and also provided learning materials to schools in Mabonto in the north and Bumpe in the Southern part of the country.  (Photo: China Kingho staff handing over the water containers to the paramount chief of Tane Chiefdom)

The donation is in fulfillment of the company’s corporate social responsibility during the course of their mining exploration in the communities.

Many of the beneficiaries of the China Kingho donation are living in deprived communities without basic amenities as a result many of the residents were in jubilant mood, when they received the donations at Tane, and Mabonto in the Kaffe Simira Chiefdom and Bumpe in the Gallines Perri Chiefdom Pujehun District.

According to the National Consultant of China Kingho Mohamed Paul Kamara the donation is a demonstration of the company’s core vision to promoting friendship, discipline and education within the communities they operate.

He said China Kingho commenced exploration in the country few years ago and since then they have been actively involved in working with land owners and stakeholders in the mining sector to assist communities with their basic needs.

The National Consultant said after several consultations with communities they decided to provide five hundred containers for 11 villages in the Tane Chiefdom that are struggling to get storage for water for their drinking and domestic use, so as a responsible company, china Kingho decided to help.

He said China Kingho respects the rights of the people they work with and plans are underway to rehabilitate some of the roads and to also address crop and land compensation issues before the company commence mining operations.

He pointed out that in a bid to address the water problem a survey was commissioned and the company agreed to procure 500 water tanks for those affected by the water pollution at Tane Chiefdom.

Some of the residents expressed happiness and appealed to China Kingho to rehabilitate some of the deplorable roads within their villages and to also support education and to improve access to water for residents of Tane Chiefdom so as to improve the livelihood of the people.

The National Consultant for China Kingho Paul Kamara said China Kingho commenced operation in the country three years ago in the North, South and Eastern regions.

He said the company is cognizant of the importance of education and believes as a responsible company they should promote education so as to empower the future generation by building their capacity to become useful citizens in the country that can contribute to national development.

He said the company will soon complete explorations and commence mining which he said will promote socio –economic development in the area and the country as a whole. He said the company will also be providing two hundred scholarship for residents of their operational areas.

During the handing over of learning materials At Mabonto in Kaffe Simira Chiefdom Hon. PC Mansa Paki Kabombor who chaired the ceremony said China Kingho can sometimes make the people happy and urged residents to embrace China Kingho for the development of their communities and the country.

He expressed disappointment over the attitude of some people in the chiefdom that are creating division between mining companies and the people especially the land owners.

Some of the parliamentarians and councilors commended China Kingho for the timely donation of the learning materials and called on their people to corporate with the company for the benefit of the entire people resident in the mining communities.

School heads, teachers and pupils that attended the handing over ceremony at Mabonto expressed thanks and appreciation to china Kingho for the donation and appealed for more help from the company in the areas of scholarship and other educational support.

At Pujehun Hon, Dixon Rogers who chaired the ceremony expressed thanks and appreciation to China Kingho for the timely donation of learning materials at the time schools are just re-opening because most parents cannot afford to buy books and pencils, whilst some schools are still without adequate chalk to write with.

He said the donation is aimed at strengthening the relationship between the people of Sierra Leone and China Kingho and called on the people to support China Kingho in the Pujehun District for the successful implementation of their investment, so as to create jobs for locals and to also develop the area.

Councilor of one of the wards Foday Rogers commended China Kingho for the donation and appealed for their continued support towards education and sponsorship of schools. He also appealed to china Kingho to also donate a computer, printer or photocopier for use by the school administration.

One of the elders of Kpaka Chiefdom Harry Caulker from Kpaka Chiefdom Pujehun District  said they are optimistic that china Kingho will contribute towards the development of Pujehun District.

He said the land belongs to the people and china Kingho can negotiate with them instead of the paramount chief; he added that they are willing to provide their lands to china Kingho for investment purpose.

The Paramount Chief of Gallines Peri- Chiefdom PC Kamara Koroma also commended china Kingho for previous donations and appealed for the construction of water taps for locals at Bumpe Town.

He said they have allocated a land to China Kingho for the construction of their site in the chiefdom and welcomed plans to construct an industrial park and a steel factory in Pujehun District

Principal of Gallines Peri Junior Secondary School Dauda Rogers commended china Kingho for the donation and suggested that they should be involved in the process of identifying the needs of schools as they are enormous but they remain grateful to the company for the donation.

Handing over the gifts by the China Kingho staff in Tane, Mabonto and Bumpe in the Pujehun District formed a high point of the ceremony.
