President Koroma and Solomon Berewa nominated for Peace Sustainability Awards

In an interview with this paper, she disclosed that her organization was to stage the first Peace Sustainability Awards in the country that is further commemorating the International Day of Peace on Saturday, September 21 this year, at the conference room of the Sierra Leone Library Board in Freetown.

She also stated that the theme for this year’s International Day of Peace is “Education for Peace,” which she said was a recent declaration by the Secretary General of United Nations, Mr. Ban ki Moon during a statement made at the Global Education First Initiative (GEFI), an initiative set up by the UN scribe to raise the political profile of education, strengthen the global movement, achieve quality education and generate additional and sufficient funding through sustained advocacy efforts.

In partnership with global education first Sierra Leone, she said that her group will further commemorate the “International Day of Peace” adding that the awards will be issued out to deserving Sierra Leoneans and institutions who in various ways have contributed in the restoration and sustainability of peace in the country . The awards, she said, are hoped to serve as an appreciation of the work of peace actors in the country.

She also revealed that other nominated to receive the awards are the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, the National Commission for Democracy, the National Electoral Commission,  Artistes for Peace, the Chinese Embassy, the Nigeria Embassy and UNIPSIL.

She explained that the International Day of Peace is commemorated globally every year on 21 September.
