for major UN announcement to advance vision of education for all children

NEW YORK, N.Y. (September 20, 2013) —  Malala Yousafzai, the young Pakistani girl who was shot on a school bus by the Taliban last October, returns to New York for the first time since her world famous 16th birthday speech in July at the United Nations – also known as Malala Day.  She will rejoin youth leaders who were delegates on Malala Day, UN Special Envoy Gordon Brown and other UN representatives to make a major announcement on supporting education for 400,000 out-of-school children refugees of Syria.

During a press conference convened by A World at School on Monday, September 23rd in New York, Malala will be joined by the UN Special Envoy for Youth, Ahmed Alhendawi, UNICEF Deputy Executive Director, Geeta Rao Gupta, Youth Representative to the UN Secretary-General’s Education First Steering Committee, Chernor Bah, UN Youth Courage Award winner and Leonard Cheshire Disability Young Voices representative, Ashwini Angadi.
