Voice-Aid Sierra Leone boosts Teachers
The Chief Executive Officer of Voice-Aid Sierra Leone, Ms. Josephine Saidu Konteh (in photo), has said that she has gained public attention through several media programmes in the country, noting that her organization has embarked on promoting the interest of Teachers in the country. She opined that through advocacy and other peaceful approaches, trained Teachers are expected to live happily than before among other professionals.
‘Good Morning Salone’ and ‘The Podium’ programmes on the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) were among some media programmes that hosted the Sierra Leonean born humanitarian heroine.
In a brief interview with this press, she said that the teaching profession and teachers have the responsibility to lead everyone into a better decision-making in the future and that they should be treated kindly and very respectful in the society.
“We are expanding from the United Kingdom into Sierra Leone to help to develop the living standards of our people,” she said, adding, “issues affecting the people of this country especially Teachers should be of utmost concern to Sierra Leoneans in England.
She disclosed that Voice-Aid United Kingdom, an affiliate to Voice-Aid Sierra Leone is the steering body that is helping in addressing the needs of the voiceless, marginalized and less privileged in society.
Madam Josephine Saidu Konteh also disclosed that Voice-Aid Sierra Leone is working in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Sierra Leone Teachers Union in implementing this project.
She explained that members of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the Sierra Leone Teachers Union, Council of Head Teachers, Conference of Principles, Tertiary Commission, the universities, a student, and an organizer are among the panel of experts who will evaluate the finalists for the National Teaching Awards.
She further disclosed that members of her group will officially launch a national ‘Thank a Teacher’ campaign on 24th September this year at the Family Kingdom entertainment complex in Freetown. She further disclosed that President Ernest Bai Koroma has consented to officially launch the campaign and will further champion their humanitarian cause in the country.
To further boost the initiative, she said that her organization will, on October 5 this year further grace the World Teachers Day and make the event very colourful.
She revealed that the closing date for the nomination of Teachers for the awards 29 November this year, adding that all nominations will be made through a ‘Thank you’ card that will be issued out during the second component of planned activities of her organization.
“We are determined to bring sanity and respect to all Sierra Leoneans and that my responsibility as a woman is to inspire other women to help in the development of the people of this country in a better form,” she concluded.
