Project Umubano 2013

Project Umubano is the Conservative Party’s International social action project in Rwanda, Burundi and Sierra Leone.

Set up in 2007 by UK Prime Minister David Cameron and Andrew Mitchell MP, Project Umubano is the first time a British political party has engaged in a social action project in the developing world.

The Project is taking place for the seventh year in 2013, and for the fifth consecutive year a team of volunteers are working in Sierra Leone.

Led by Conservative MPs, and members of the Conservative Voluntary Party, the volunteers work in a diverse range of areas.  In Sierra Leone this year the programme focuses on Justice, Health and also Business and Livelihoods.

Every year since the beginning of the Project Members of Parliament, Ministers, lawyers, nurses, business people, teachers and students have funded their own visit to be part of Project Umubano and to help build a lasting legacy in Africa. Many choose to return each year to continue the work they have been doing.

The team of volunteers arrived in Freetown on Sunday 15th September for 10 days.
