Over delay in Afsatu Kabba appeal Tombo set for big demo

Over 300 supporters of the former Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Haja Afsatu Kabba, residing in fish-rich Tombo in the Western Rural District, have planned to join other colleague supporters to demonstrate before the Law Courts and State House to demand a speedy hearing of her appeal matter in the Court of Appeal, this paper has been reliably informed.

Mr. Mohamed S. Koroma, a businessman and Coordinator of the Islamic Forum based in Tombo disclosed to this paper that they have seen the need to join the demonstration because of their conviction that Haja Afsatu Kabba did her assignment well and assisted a good number of traders in that part of the country while in power.

“We are preparing ourselves to hire ten vehicles to join those in Freetown for the demonstration by the end of this month,” he stated.

He maintained that they will peacefully make President Ernest Bai Koroma understand that they are unhappy for the fact that justice has not yet prevailed in Haja Afsatu Kabba’s case. He stressed that all they want to see is for the Court of Appeal to deliver a fair ruling in the matter.

Ma Musu Koroma, a fish monger in Tombo told this reporter that they are ready to suspend their business activities on the day of the demonstration to let the people of this country know that they still love and respect Haja Afsatu Kabba in spite of her indictment and current political fracture.

She stated that they can no longer keep quiet over the continuous silence of the Court of Appeal on this matter.

According to the founding member of the Sierra Leone Islamic Forum, Mr. Sorie Ibrahim Kabia, they want their supporters to exercise caution and patience with the Judiciary in their demand for conclusion of the matter.

He said they are a law-abiding and development oriented organisation and they support justice for every Sierra Leonean. He maintained that they have the right to peacefully make their concern known, adding that they have intervened initially when supporters and admirers expressed the need to demonstrate against delay in delivering ruling on behalf of Haja Afsatu Kabba.

Haja Afsatu Kabba, who months ago celebrated her 60th birthday, has been anxiously waiting on her country’s Judiciary to come out with a ruling that will determine her political fate.
