Timber Association to plant 75,000 trees nationwide
The Timber Association of Sierra Leone is set to plant at least 15,000 trees in each of the five districts in Sierra Leone. Chairman of the Association, Mr. Allan Barrie, informed this medium that reforestation is a major challenge that his association is faced with, and as part of the promise made to the president and people of this country they have resorted to replacing trees in their various districts of operation, thus averting one of the causes of environmental degradation.
Chairman Allan Barrie noted that his association is partnering with the Government through the Ministry of Agriculture Forestry & Food Security through which they have benefited from trainings.
According to the chairman, limited constrain is being faced by the association during the course of their planting exercise across the country. He further pointed out that as a responsible organization they have a united membership in the five districts of the country namely Kambia, Port Loko, Bombali, Thonkolili and Koinadugu districts respectively.
He went on to disclose that 30,000 seedlings code-named ‘5-cut’ have already been buried into the surface of the earth and they are expected to replenish areas that suffer deforestation.
He urged his entire membership lend their support and remain committed to attaining the aspirations of the association.
