China Gezhouba Group Cooperation heads for Sierra Leone
The General Manager of International Department for China Gezhouba Group Corporation, the company credited for constructing on the Three Gorges Dam, has disclosed interest in developing projects on energy and municipal projects, such as water power, wind power and solar power, sewage treatment, bridges, highways, airports and ports. Speaking recently in a meeting with Sierra Leone’s envoy to China, His Excellency Victor Bockarie Foh, Zhang Wei said, China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC), which was founded in 1970, is a super-large transnational corporation under the jurisdiction of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council of China.
The company, he said, is a national innovative enterprise with its own corporate finance company authorized by the state and is entitled to provincial-level contraction and import/ export. The company has a business scope that covers water conservation, hydropower, thermal power, nuclear power, wind power, electromechanical installation, power transmission and transformation, highways, railways, bridges, municipal works, airports, ports, waterways, the design, construction of, and investment in industrial and civil buildings, as well as real estate development. The CGGC, he said, has a non-bank financial institution approved by the People’s Bank of China, the central bank of China and has established strategic partnerships with many policy-oriented banks and large commercial banks in China.
CGGG, he went on, has strong financing capability and can develop investment business with mutually dependent industrial chain.
With the internationally renowned brand of Gezhouba, GGGC’s business covers 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China and reaches out to over 56 countries/regions in Asia, the Middle East, Africa and America. Besides the world well-known Three Gorges Project and the Gezhouba Water Conservancy project, CGGC is currently carrying out the construction of the Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Station in Pakistan with a contract sum of 12 billion RMB yuan, which is by far the largest hydropower station project undertaken by a Chinese company. Speaking on the willingness to serve Sierra Leone and make contributions to build a closer friendship between the Sierra Leone and China, Zhang Wei said, they intend working on hydro power, water treatment and roads, amongst other areas.
Responding, Ambassador Foh said, it is his desire to have a conglomerate of credible Chinese companies working together in line with Sierra Leone’s development agenda. The plan by CGGG to develop projects in Sierra Leone, Ambassador Foh said, is encouraging especially as the government is pursuing a robust energy project in the country. “With a company like yours, we think you fit into what we are looking for” Ambassador Foh said, President Koroma is looking forward to a new city for the country and a new airport in the coming years “with a strong desire to get electricity to every household.”
