New government in Guinea welcomed in Saudi Arabia

New government in Guinea welcomed in Saudi Arabia

The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC)has welcomed the formation of the new transitional unity government in Guinea led by Prime Minister Jean Marie Dore (in photo), a press release sent to the Sierra Leone Embassy in Riyadh by the OIC Secretariat in Jeddah states.

According to the release, Prof. Ekemeleddin Ihsanoglu expressed the hope that the government will address the numerous challenges facing the country and most importantly faithfully implement the transition programme leading to credible, transparent, free and fair elections in Guinea.

“The Secretary General, while pledging to the new authorities in Guinea of the solidarity and support of the OIC, appealed to all Guineans to rally round the government in order to speedily return the country to constitutional rule within the six month transitional period”, the release ends.

Many have welcomed Prime Minister Jean-Marie Dore’s appointment of a transition government in Guinea. The 34-member cabinet includes 24 civilians, and represents an important step towards restoring civilian control in neighbouring Guinea and the country’s transition process.
