President Koroma warns against violence & indiscipline as he hosts SLPP stakeholders
President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma has called on the leadership of the SLPP, including all stakeholders to observe law and order during their party convention scheduled to commence in Bo City on Friday 16th August, instant.
The Head of State noted that in as much as government will not be interfering with the process to elect the party’s executives at the convention, government, he said “will not tolerate any acts of violence or disturbance of the peace and quiet prevailing in the country.” He also admonished that no one is above the law as anyone found culpable of fomenting trouble will be dealt with according to the laws of the land, irrespective of which party they belong to.
President Koroma also disclosed that the meeting with the SLPP was in response to intelligence gathered from the constituencies, districts and regions leading up to the convention slated for this weekend. He said that if government does not come in now to mellow the situation, no one knows what will happen during the convention as people will go out of their way to give the SLPP a bad name and that will affect the Image of the country.
He encouraged them to work according to the tenets of democracy and help maintain peace and quiet.
Chairman and Leader of the SLPP, John O. Benjamin appreciated the timely intervention of His Excellency President Koroma and all the issues he had reiterated in relation to the peaceful conduct of the SLPP convention has added comfort to the membership of the SLPP, and considered the President’s intervention an opportunity to bring the SLPP together and a foundation to bring change within the internal democracy in the party.
Whilst expounding on the issue of law and order, President Koroma emphasized that his intervention had nothing to do with the internal dynamics of the SLPP but to address any issue that has the propensity to undermine the security of the state. “I will not come in to settle the dispute. The internal dispute within the SLPP will be appropriately addressed by the PPRC”, he said.
Speaker after speaker commended President Koroma for his timely intervention, and as a demonstration of responsible leadership, President Koroma ensured that one security personal be attached to each aspirant for positions in the SLPP at the forthcoming convention as requested by them.

Julius Maada Bio, SLPP Flag bearer, Dr Kadie Sesay, former SLPP running mate, Sulaiman Banja Tejan Sie, SLPP National Secretary General, Ambassador Alie Bangura and Chief Sumano Kapen, aspirants for the Chairman and Leader position, Mrs. Isatu Jabbie Kabbah, SLPP Women’s Leader, Ambassador Foyah, Hon. Tamba Sam, SLPP National Publicity Secretary, Franklyn Bai Kargbo, Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Chairman of the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC), and other executive members.
