Sierra Leone and China sign $8 Billion deal
President Koroma disclosed to journalists that he has signed a $8 billion contract with the Chinese Government to construct an international airport, a railway, and many more infrastructural development projects.
He made the disclosure during a press conference on Friday, 5th July, 2013, at State House, Freetown.
The president said he signed the contract during his recent visit to China where he signed a $1.7 billion contract with the Kingho Energy Group for the construction of a port, a mine, power, and a 250km railway.
The president further revealed that during his visit, he finalized a $300 million contract with the Chinese Railway International Company which is to construct the new international airport at Mamamah, 60 Kilometers from Freetown.
Lungi International Airport, which is about 12 Kilometers across the Atlantic to Freetown, was the former military base of the British soldiers during World Wars I and II.

He added that both countries pledged to continue their mutual cooperation to achieve the aspiration of peace, development and reform of the United Nations’ and Sierra Leone’s support for the ‘One China Policy”.
Sierra Leone remains poor in the midst of several minerals such as diamonds, gold, iron ore, bauxite and zircon. However, there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel as President Koroma is exerting every effort to make sure that Sierra Leoneans benefit from their God-given minerals.
