Mahmoud FC scored the highest number of goals of the day netting seven past Pama Queens to become the first team to qualify for the grand finale on Sunday and will face either Young Stars or Med United. Even a defeat in their last round-robin game against Med United on Saturday will not stop them from playing the final because they’ve secured maximum points from two games in a group of four teams.
The defeat has put Pama Queens completely out the race as they’ve lost two games they’ve played so far, and will only play for pride in their last group fixture against Young Stars on Saturday Fatmata Mansaray scored a hatrick to become the tournament’s top goal scorer so far with four goals. Marie B. Conteh known as Fabio and Magrette Sesay netted a brace each. Sesay has now taken her tally in the tournament to three.
The other match in the female category between Young Stars and Med United finished goalless. Med United face a difficult opposition in Mahmoud FC in their last group game and need only a draw to take them to the final.
Young Stars on the other hand need to win at all cost by wider margin against the whipping girls Pama Queens and hope Med United lose heavily if they are to qualify for the final.
There are two groups of three teams each in the boys category, and only one of these teams Bureh FC are out of the race because they’ve lost their two games in group A 2-0 to Area Best on Thursday and 2-1 to Kallon FC on Friday. It was Kallon FC’s first game in the group and are now equal in points with Area Best who are leading on goal difference. The two teams meet on Saturday in a do or die battle in their final group game to fight for a place in the grand final on Sunday. Kallon FC need to win at all cost whilst a draw will be sufficient for Area Best to go through.
The race in group B is still open with all three teams Med Man’s Rural Kings and Real Friends still keep their hopes alive. On Friday, Rural Kings defeated Real Friends 1-0 to finish the group with three points. Real Friends take on Med Man’s in group last game on Saturday, and if the former win 1-0, all three teams in the group will get the same number of points, goal scored and goal conceded. Med Mans just need a draw to qualify for the final as group leaders. Real Friends can automatically qualify if they win by at least two goals margin.
The ARS Technical Team are busy penning down the names of impressive players in the tournament and will announce on Sunday the selected players for both categories that will represent Western Area in the nationals in Makeni next month.
