18th February is a public holiday
The General Public is hereby informed that it has pleased His Excellency the President to declare the 18th February as a public holiday. This day is Armed Forces Day which marks the remembrance of our fallen heroes during the participation of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces in the two World Wars, the Liberian Civil War, and the Civil Conflict in Sierra Leone from 1991-2002.
His Excellency the President has also graciously appointed this special day as a national day of prayer and thanksgiving to give the people an opportunity to pray and give thanks to God for the repose of the souls of all those civilians and soldiers who lost their lives in the horrendous civil war, to glorify God for delivering this nation from anarchy; to pray for sustained peace, unity, and national cohesion as the nation forges ahead on the path of development.
To that end, Thursday 18th February 2010 will be observed as a public holiday.
