Parliamentary Committee boosts Makeni SLBC

Bombali, June (SLENA) – The Committee on Transparency and Accountability in parliament has capacitated the Makeni branch of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC 88.0 FM) in the Bombali District with two Itel mobile phones.

The phones were handed over to the Deputy Station Manager Mr. Amadu F Sesay shortly after the hearing session of the committee with the Bombali District Council in compliance with the Local Government Act 2004.

In his expression of gratitude, Mr. Amadu Falilu Sesay said the gesture represents a milestone in the history of the radio in that part of the district, stating that for a number of days the station has off air due to lack of electricity.

Lamenting further, Mr. Sesay told the committee that the road leading to the radio station was very deplorable such that people turned down invitations for discussions due to the poor state of the road.

In his contribution, the Chairman of the committee, Hon. Claude D M Kamanda said his committee observed that during their visit, the station had no mobile phone to encourage listeners to interact and participate in phone-in programmes. “That is why the committee deemed it necessary to donate two mobile phones for the use of the station,” the MP added.

FM 88.0 is among six SLBC radio stations operating in the provinces, the others being in Bo, Kenema, Kono, Kailahun and Magburuka.
