Police investigate land dispute at Kent Village
The Waterloo Police are currently investigating allegations of thuggery in a land saga at Kent Village in the Western Rural District. George Labor, Proprietor of Sehgbeh Pieh Resort at Kent Village is said to have made an official complaint to the police, alleging that on Pastor Chambers on 12th June 2013 accompanied by his caretaker, Jemie King a potential candidate for the Headmanship of Kent Village, visited the area and attempted to destroy his temporary structure which he was constructing for storage of cleaning and construction tools and also for temporary residence of his workers. “I was informed that this menace was averted because of the timely intervention of Mr. Kofi Textonthe caretaker of Mrs. Gibson,” Mr. Labor alleged. Report states that the Waterloo Police is said to have invited the two claimant of the land to forward their document. The police have confirmed to this press that the matter is under investigations, adding that they have not receive any evidence that will prove the allegations of thuggery as contained by Mr. Labor.
Police sources described these allegations as baseless and uncompounded because no witness has been forwarded to make a statement. Sources say the carpenter hired by Mr. Labor was sacked because he failed to report to the police station to make a statement in favour of his employee. “How can I give a false statement to the police about an issue that will land me into trouble?” the carpenter was quoted to have asked.
Report states that Mr. Labor allegedly acquired the said piece of land from one Mrs. Onike Gibson of the Freetown Secondary School for Girls few weeks ago, without investigating the rightful owner (s) of the said property.
The Deputy Village Headman of Kent, Mr. Bassie confirmed to this press that the said property has been in dispute for a very long time. “I see no reason why Mr. Labor claimed to have acquired it without any investigation,” he said, and added that he knew one Pastor Chambers as the owner for over twenty years. He denied knowledge of hired thugs by Pastor Chambers or his Caretaker Jemy King, stopping Mr. Labor from entering the land in dispute.
In an interview with this press, Elizabeth Yatunde Sillah of 42 Dan Street Kent Village, recalled in 1987 when one Mr. Beresford Small sold the said piece of land to Pastor Chambers. The 63 years old native of Kent Village who was acting as Caretaker in the said land for Mr. Small said several people have made claims on the said property but failed, not until three years ago when the Man of God decided to develop his property. “I am shock to see Mr. Labor coming to claim such property two weeks ago,” says Madam Sillah, and confirmed that Mr. Labor is only doing business in Kent and not resident in the village.
She further informed this reporter that the Man of God took Le10m (ten million Leones) as a token of appreciation to the village for protecting his property before developing it. Pastor Chambers, she said was instructed by the current Village Headman, Samuel Massa to increase it to Le15m (fifteen million Leones). “We wholeheartedly accepted the Le15m as a seven man committee signed a document to show receipt of the said sum,” Madam Sillah said. She confirmed that the Headman refused to sign the document, which he is now using to sabotage the man of God. “As far as I am concern, I can tell any authority that the land belongs to Pastor Chambers,” she said.
