Briefing Ambassador Bockari Kortu Stevens and staff at the 1701 19th Street North West Washington DC chancery, His Worship Bababode Gibson introduced councillor Aminata Gibril Sesay of Ward 389 Constituency 110, Mr. Abdul J Sesay Director of JOADAH Capital Infrastructure Partners

Mayor Gibson thanked Ambassador Bockari Stevens for giving him a special courtesy by receiving him in person at the Airport, and said “I am bound by law as a City Father to visit our embassy on arrival.

“Secondly, Ambassador Bockari Stevens is a very senior Comrade of our All People’s Congress (APC) Party and the most senior Government Official in North America.” Said His Worship Mayor Gibson.

His Worship the Mayor described Beowulf World Wide and JOADAH CAPITAL INFRASTRUCTURE as “strategy and Transaction Advisors to the Municipality of Freetown. He described them as “an American Corporation with a Pan African business Focus, which provides an end to end infrastructure solution to government ministries; sub national entities and private sector partners across sub – Saharan Africa,

“They have secured sponsorship for a round trip to Washington DC, to also seek audience with the authorities of the Washington District of Columbia (D.C) including Maryland and Virginia. Said Mayor Gibson.

Mayor Gibson briefed Ambassador Stevens about developments back home and said the Freetown Municipality is gradually returning to what it used to be (a place for Love, Peace, Tranquility, Law and Order coupled with oneness and sanitized environment).

In the area of Street trading, Mayor Gibson said ‘Markets which were under Construction are now near completion: and construction of two other multi – purpose markets in the Central and Eastern Freetown areas that will accommodate more traders, are on the way. “Even though we have started easing them out of the streets, it will become very effective after the completion of these multi centers.”

 He praised the Government of President Ernest Bai Koroma for its inspirations and heads-up and thanked the Local Government Ministry and the Ministry of Finance, for not only fully cooperating with his local government, but also helping him pay a huge debt of tens of billions of Leones he inherited.

 On the question of the piece of land regarding the demolished City Hall, Mayor Gibson said, talks are near completion with South Korea to build a massive multi-purpose complex that will do more justice to the strategic importance of the terrain.

 He cited results of the National Primary School Exams (NPSE) and said City Council Schools are doing very well.

Responding, Ambassador Bockari Kortu Stevens welcomed His Worship the Mayor and thanked him and members of his delegation for honoring him and his staff and said one of the many major functions of the embassy is to accord all government officials the necessary protocol and hospitality and further facilitate their duties while here in the USA.

Ambassador Stevens gave a brief synopsis of his role as Ambassador and the functions of the Embassy including challenges.

Deputy Chief of Mission Ambassador Ibrahim S. Conteh thanked His Worship the Mayor for contacting the Embassy prior to his arrival and said “it gave us time to prepare to receive you.”

 His Worship Mayor Sam Franklyn Bababode Gibson was taken on a conducted tour of the Embassy.

His Worship the Mayor was received by Head of Chancery Mrs. Isatu Sillah, First Secretary, Mr. Edward Kawa and Information attaché Pasco Gerald Temple .
