New Amputee Chairman in Kenema
The Kenema District Amputees and War Wounded Association held their final chairmanship election at the district headquarter city of Kenema early this year. When Sierra Express Media met with Mohamed Kallon, the newly elected chairman at Kenema on 2nd January 2010 offered to give an insight into his organization.
He said in an exclusive interview that the organization was founded in 2001 by Rev Alimamy Kargbo who initiated this issue by calling on some amputees to engage themselves into some skills training as it was the only way that help them out. He told this press that their first chairman for the organization was Solomon Cooper who served them for nine years but declared last year that was retiring.
His retirement according to the newly elected chairman resulted in the just concluded election that has given birth to the new executive, revealing that the organization consists of one hundred and seventeen (117) registered members.
The chairman talked about recent developmental programmed which they are now under taking such as tailoring, carpentry, masonry, and adult literacy training. At the same time according to him, the association was fortunate to benefit from fifty houses built by a Norwegian organization that came to their aid some time back last year but that the amputees are still constrained by many need and are thus calling to other Non-governmental organizations to come to their aid.
