Why we should sustain the gains

We all, as admirers of President Koroma have a duty to work in his interest and ensure, the legacies he is working on, are sustained and protected when he shall have left office. Taking a look at how he worked tremendously to ensure his reelection, it is but acceptable to state that any effort aimed at undermining his gains should be condemned at once.  From his success in sustaining the country’s drive to an enabling ground for the practice of multiparty democracy by allowing a functional opposition, to his determination in ensuring that there is an acceptable environment for media and free press, a lot has been seen and the people are impressed.  With no political prisoner and no media persona jailed and with no plans for that, we all should be proud of his presidency, worked towards  strengthening such tracks and  in our  quite moments, ask for God guidance over him.

From the perspective of the ‘Agenda for Change’, we saw how the President was able to bring about the change and development for which he was overwhelmingly voted, by majority of Sierra Leoneans. This ‘Agenda for Change’ was aimed at moving the country forward in the areas of agriculture, infrastructure, education, health energy and power, amongst other areas  Sure, there was tremendous progress in the implementation of this ‘Agenda for Change’. The provision of electricity to every household in the country was focused on. The Bumbuna Hydroelectric Dam, which got the attention of President Koroma upon assuming office in 2007, was completed and commissioned in 2009.

The fight against corruption was taken with all seriousness and moved to a different dimension with the body responsible to fight corruption, (Anti Corruption Commission) granted prosecutorial powers to charge corruption related matters to court, with no government interference. In 2010, the Anti Corruption Commission handled a total of 117 cases. Eight (8) of these led to convictions, including two Government Ministers. This was a strong demonstration of government’s commitment to the fight against corruption. Also, as part of the Government’s ‘Agenda for Change’ President Koroma worked in the direction of implementing a Free Healthcare Initiative which was introduced 2010. He ensured the provision of more resources to medical staff and the procurement of drugs and equipments and strengthening of supervision. And as a result of this initiative for pregnant and lactating mothers, in 2011 alone, 41,000 women gave birth through the program. An encouraging gain he got and one we should protect.

In the areas of agriculture, infrastructure, in the promotion of human right issues, in job creation, the President has been an exemplary performer. What we have seen in terms of infrastructural development, from the perspective of fixing our road network is just too encouraging.  The roads linking Freetown and the peninsular villages have been exceptionally good , Wilkinson road is today a class ‘A’ road in the city, feeder roads in places like Bo, Kenema, Makeni are in a perfect state, with  the roads linking Sierra Leone and her sister country-Guinea today  being in  good state.

A people’s President he continues to be, President Koroma has done so great, that it will be painfully disastrous and unacceptable for anyone to directly or indirectly undermine such great works and whoever attempts such should be  ask to wait for a while. If you can’t support his gains, don’t spoil. This is because; we want the President to have good things to point at as legacies, when he shall have retired. We worked for his reelection. We went to villages; we went to towns and we went to cities; we slept not during the 2012 elections; and he himself never waited but off, he also was going to ensure the people got his message, all in a bid to making a strong case for his reelection and indeed, the people accepted.

If for no reason, we should be grateful to him, for some of us are grateful   to him and that is why we say we all should support him in sustain his gains.
