Chief demands apology for his people

Paramount Chief Shebora Lion II of Mambolo Chiefdom, Kambia District, has demanded an apology from the Resident Minister North Hon. Alie D. Kamara for his appalling attitude towards his people in Mambolo Chiefdom Kambia District.

Paramount Chief Shebora Lion II expressed frustration over the cancellation of the section chief elections which was scheduled for the 29th May 2013. He disclosed that both the aspirants and the people had spent millions of Leones to prepare for the election only to be notified by the District Officer that the elections has been cancelled on 28th May, 2013 .

According to the Paramount Chief the date was agreed upon on the 17th May, 2013; after a consultative meeting held with the Hon. Minister of Local Government Diana Konomanyi (in photo) and all stake holders of the chiefdom including the District Officer.

Paramount Chief Shebora Lion II said that the numerous cancellations of the elections might be a potential to cause chaos in the chiefdom. He appealed to any aggrieved candidate to channel his grievances to the right channel rather than rendering the chiefdom into chaos. He appealed to the authorities to clearly spell who is to supervise section chief elections because according to him it is the Paramount Chief in consultation with the Ministry of Local Government and not the Resident Minister.

In an interview with the District Officer Mr. Alfred Lahai he revealed that there was a cabinet ban on all section chiefs’ elections in the country since 2012 before the Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government elections. He reiterated that whenever they fixed a date to hold the elections the resident minister north Hon. Alie D. Kamara usually reminded him about the cabinet ban on all sub-sections chiefs’ elections.

Mr. Alfred Lahai emphasized that they were just putting tentative dates for the elections hoping that the ban would have been lifted but he opined that the election can’t be hold till the cabinet ban is lifted. The question that he failed to answer is why are they selling symbols and fixing dates for elections when they fully knows that there is a cabinet ban on all section chiefs’ elections.

All efforts to get the side of the resident minister Hon. Alie D. Kamara prove futile as he keeps telling me “I am in a meeting, will call you later.”
