AIRTEL Money Partners with NPCU/TAA

Leading mobile company Airtel has partnered with the National Program Coordinating Unit/Technical Assistance Agency (NPCU/TAA) which the International Fund for Agricultural Development  (IFAD) is funding.  This partnership took place in Kenema on May 30, 2013.

Corporate Affairs Manager, June Rose Johnson chaired the program during which she said that Airtel has taken an adventure worth embarking upon and this will help the village communities.

Head of Airtel Money, Olayemi Jinadu said Sierra Leone’s population is estimated at 6.2m and more than thirteen banks in the country but not all the populace is being serviced. He said Mobile phone is highly used now which created the use of Mobile Money in Sierra Leone.

“We want to achieve penetration in the partnership with an organization like this. Airtel Money mobile commerce wants to ensure every Sierra Leonean transfers money easily.

Jinadu said collaboration with the International Fund for Agricultural Development is to empower the communities and Airtel money makes the same impact, adding that subscribers can now link their bank accounts with Airtel Money.

Rural Finance Officer, Momodu Sesay said the bank has various products they offer and much has been done in the area of agriculture, saying Airtel Money has created impact at community levels.

Mr. Sesay further revealed that they have thirteen community banks and fifty one village banks. “Our target is that all communities and villages benefit from this product,” he emphasized.

A Community Bank Manager, Samuel Bonda said they cater for deprived communities and people who do not have opportunities to do large transaction. “With Airtel Money, transactions are very easy for the communities and villages,” he added.

Launching the partnership, the Mayor of Kenema City, Joseph Kelfala described the partnership as a quality service which will enable subscribers to make and receive payment through the Airtel Money. The Mayor described Airtel Money as a mobile wallet as well as a bank, noting that Airtel is the oldest mobile company which always brings innovative and competitive ideas and promos which excite subscribers.

“Airtel Money can safely keep your money from theft,” he said and it describes it as a Poverty Reduction Strategy.

  • i am appealing to the air-tel company to please put/replace back the students communication,browsing and research tariff, the (air-tel money). the remover of these system is becoming a controllable to our comfort.
