CKC to launch Sierra Leone Physics Society
The Principal of Christ the King College (Senior Secondary) in Bo, Mr. Abraham Tucker has observed in Bo that classes taught through textbook method alone will be difficult for the teacher to teach and the pupils to understand.
He made this remark when a cross section of members of the Sierra Leone Physics Society (SLPS), CKC branch paid him a courtesy call recently to brief him on plans to officially launch the society in that school.
Expressing his appreciation of the rationale behind the formation of the society in his school, Mr. Abraham Tucker noted that mathematics, physics, chemistry and other core science subjects are gradually dying in schools in the country and there is therefore the dire need to encourage pupils to opt for those disciplines.
He pledged his support and active participation in the project, adding that CKC is science biased, which is why students in his school should be seeing doing well in those subjects.
Earlier, the Acting Coordinator of the society, Mr. Foday Momoh who doubles as Deputy Head of the Physics Department of the school, briefed the principal about the objective of the society which is to sensitize pupils that physics is all about working together to achieve classroom goals.
He observed that many schools today lack science teachers because majority of pupils now opt for technical subjects.
