AWOL Takes Charge of 50th Independence Anniversary

All Walks of Life (AWOL) last weekend launched its bid to take full charge of the celebration of the country’s 50th Anniversary celebration, a campaign which the chairman of the group Chernor Bah told journalists at the Bintumani Hotel will commence April this year and will run into April of 2011 when the country would be celebrating 50 years of self rule; an undertaking that will cost the group over one million US Dollars.

AWOL; one of the few development and charity based indigenous organizations in the country has informed journalists at the Binumani Hotel in Freetown of its plan to take over the celebration country’s Independence as Sierra Leone marches up to the celebration of its 50th year of self rule with series of events that will be undertaken both locally and internationally for the benefit of citizens in the Diaspora.

The series of events according to AWOL will target the need to rescue the dying image the country has as per what it once had in terms of education, history, development and whilst it will also try to show case its unique culture and tradition, touristic and investment potential. It noted that AWOL has realized that people of this country as well as the rest of the world have forgotten a lot about the contribution of Sierra Leone in regional and global development and that not much is know about the development potential of the country to both citizens and the world at large; this he went on will be showcased for all to see by AWOL as it contribution to not only account for what Sierra Leone has gained in 50 years of self  rule but also tell the whole world and nationals in the Diaspora of the wealth  and potential of the country.

Mr. Chernor Bah mentioned that these will be achieved through series of events, publicity radio and television talks and newspaper adverts and press releases that will also be linked and featured world wide for the benefit of those that are interested in affairs of the country. “AWOL also plans to take this first of its kind venture to mark the 50th independence anniversary to schools and academic institutions like the colleges and Universities where public lectures, debates and panel discussions will be held in the honor of re-branding of the country” the AWOL chairman noted.

Also as part of the celebration, it was announced that the group will unveil a national monument which costs one million dollars which more than hundred thousand dollars will be used to facilitate the various activities that will be held to meet up with April 2011.
