Kambai District Council clears the air

The rehabilitation of the Rokuprmagbema Chiefdom Health Centre and  the Magbemgbeh, Gbinleh Dixon Chiefdom in the Kambia district has finally been completed, according to an investigation conducted by various media houses and press concern for the People’s Advocacy Network Sierra Leone.  The investigation came amidst various allegations saying the project was a scam.   (Photo: Newly rehabilitated Kambia Health Centre.)

According to the Chief Administrator Mr. Victor K Kamara on the said allegation, he explained to the team that the allegation is baseless and unfounded to smear the good image of the Kambia District Council.  He said councils has never received $98,000,000 as alleged.  He added that the money funded to rehabilitate the Kambia Health Centre was Le64,000,000 to rehabilitate the staff quarters, pumps, water wells, painting, steel windows and glass . He reiterated that according to World Bank team investigations that were in Kambia they commended the Kambia District Council for the speedy work of the two health centers.  The team also said that they will provide funding to council because according to them the money provided to the contractor was not even enough to complete the work but through council effort they were able to finish the work.

According to the Community Health Officer in charge of Rokupr Health Center ,John Victor, he said before now the center was completely dilapidated and was not good for patients to have treatment.  He said the water system has drastically improved and the number of patients coming for treatment has also increased.  He noted that the center is now equipped to treat patients with cases of TB, malaria, and other diseases.

The Secretary Health Community Committee of the Rokupr Health Center ,Alie Kamara, said the center can now enjoy good drainage at the facility and the rehabilitation of the health center is now safe from thieves.  He commended the Kambia District Council and World Bank for such a laudable venture in providing a better service for the people.

When contacted, some of the beneficiaries in Magbemgbeh, Gbinleh Dixon chiefdom in the Kambia district said, one of the beneficiaries HawanatuKargbo a five-month pregnant woman commended the center for providing free health care for their children and pregnant women in the community.

Nurse Magret Dubuya of the Magbemgbeh, Gbinleh Dixon said most women in the community are coming to the center now to deliver their babies, adding that the only problem they are faced with is mobility and appeal to the authorities concerned for assistance.  She said there is no complaints of maternal death for now.
