UNDP Sierra Leone launches new website on Adobe CQ5.

UNDP in Sierra Leone joined a list of other UNDP country offices that are upgrading their online presence through UNDP‘s Web Upgrade Project, which seeks to develop high standards of online communication across UNDP.  “As Sierra Leone moves forward to consolidate democracy, review the constitution and continue to enhance inclusive economic growth, the new UNDP website will be a good source of information for the public and partners”, said Mohamed Abchir, acting Country Director.

The initiative led by Karim Bah with the collaboration of Jillian Lewis and Christian Thomas, and the support of Mia Seppo, former UNDP Sierra Leone Country Director, has equipped the Sierra Leone country office with the tools to inform the public about the work UNDP does in Sierra Leone.

UNDP’s country office websites are the main vehicles to showcase UNDP’s work on the ground. Thus, it is essential that these sites remain up-to-date at all times, striking a careful balance between providing information about UNDP’s corporate and country-specific programmes and activities.

At no cost, the country office now has access to a robust, easy-to-use system that allows programme and communications staff to publish online. In addition, the office ended its dependency on third party vendors for hosting, technology, and web design.

About UNDP’s Web Upgrade Project:

The Web Upgrade Project launched in 2010 as part of UNDP Content and Collaboration Architecture seeks to develop high standards of online communication across UNDP to further the organizational goal of “delivering as one.” The project aims to improve UNDP’s global image, standardize web management, establish web governance, facilitate transparency, and ensure that the general public, the UNDP community (partners, donors, etc.), development professionals and programme staff can easily locate the information they need.

Managed by the Online Communications Team, this project runs along 4 distinct tracks in parallel:

  1. Expansion and maintenance of UNDP.org in English, French, and Spanish.
  2. Implementation and maintenance of a global content management system (CMS), Adobe CQ5.  This new CMS provides authoring, collaboration, and administration tools designed to allow users with little knowledge of the web to create and manage their content with relative ease.
  3. Web upgrade for UNDP’s country offices, regional bureaus and representation offices. This upgrade includes new CMS (Adobe CQ5), design, content strategy, information architecture, analytics tools (Google Analytics), and full-time technical support for all adopters.
  4. Training: offices are trained in how to write for the web, communicating UNDP’s results through storytelling, and Adobe CQ5 (the new CMS).
